## Maya's proposal connects findings with three purposes

Continue Maya's original fictional account from the assessment lesson\. The clinician has described a mixed contribution, remaining\-growth context and a separate upper\-width finding\. The proposal explains what those findings mean for the changes being discussed\.

**The forward goal** concerns bringing the upper teeth/jaw relationship forward\. The proposed protraction facemask and upper appliance are named for that front\-to\-back job\.

**The width goal** concerns widening across the upper arch\. The widening component is assigned that separate purpose\. Naming it does not say that forward change has happened or that every aspect of the underbite has been addressed\.

**The tooth\-position goal** concerns arranging the front teeth identified in the mixed assessment\. It remains a distinct orthodontic purpose: a jaw\-directed appliance name does not, by itself, explain the entire tooth\-alignment part of a proposal\. The clinician keeps that distinction visible in Maya's plan\.

## Forward change and widening are different goals

The guardian asks whether the widening part is simply another name for bringing the upper teeth/jaw forward\. The fictional orthodontist answers: “No\. The forward component addresses the front\-to\-back goal\. The widening component addresses width\. Your assessment describes more than one contribution, so we connect each proposed part with the finding and goal it is intended to address\.”

Maya can now explain why two components are named without treating them as two labels for the same change\. The explanation also leaves tooth alignment recognizable as its own purpose\. This is a reading of the supplied proposal, not a universal appliance sequence\.

### An intended change is different from an observed change

The orthodontist continues: “The proposal tells us what we intend to change\. A progress review is where observations are considered against those goals\. The method's name and the arrows in an educational drawing do not show that a change has already occurred\.”

That distinction also helps with evidence\. An immediate improvement reported in a child study does not establish Maya's future result\. Cochrane's review leaves lasting benefit and prevention of adult surgery uncertain; the family reads those limits alongside the proposed purpose\.

## Which directions belong with this proposal?

The practical answer is already supplied: Maya's appliance directions, version A, were provided and explained by her treating orthodontist for the named appliance components\. That document contains her personal instructions; this guide supplies no wear, force, activation or treatment sequence\.

In the fictional arrangement, the team has confirmed that the family can call its supplied contact number to request an explanation\. Maya will ask how her directions apply during an after\-school activity, and her guardian will help coordinate the discussion\. The route is settled; that specific personal answer remains with the treating orthodontist\.

## What Maya and her guardian now understand

Maya says: “The forward part is meant to address the upper teeth/jaw relationship in a front\-to\-back direction\. Widening is the separate width job\. I can explain both goals without saying the changes have happened\.”

Her guardian says: “The tooth\-position part still has its own purpose\. We understand why the proposal names different jobs, and we will not read a widening goal as proof that the whole underbite is corrected\. An immediate study finding is also different from a lasting result for Maya\.”

Together they can connect the supplied findings, the intended changes and the professional's explanation\. Their practical question has an identified directions document and contact route\. The orthodontist remains responsible for the individual's directions and review; the family's understanding does not depend on guessing instructions from a device name\.
